AI and Human Uniqueness: Are We Just Sophisticated Computing Machines?

Date recorded: 20 May 2019 | Speaker: David Glass | Event: ELF Science Network
Topic: Science

Description

David Glass is a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at Ulster University in Northern Ireland. In this talk, he explores several critical questions about AI. Could it ever achieve intelligence equivalent to humans or become conscious? What are the implications of this for how we think about ourselves? Could AI undermine human uniqueness by suggesting we are nothing more than sophisticated computing machines? Consider how they might lead us to a view of human unique-ness presenting a challenge for naturalism, but consistent with the Christian view that we are made in the image of God.
