Secular ideologies since the eighteenth-century Enlightenment period have undermined the JudeoChristian sanctity-of-life ethic, thereby demoting humans to being either machines or nothing but animals. This talk examines how Darwin and subsequent biological determinists, Marx and other environmental determinists, and Nietzsche contributed to dehumanizing tendencies in our culture.
