Caring for the planet is undoubtedly a legitimate ethical concern for the Christian, but discerning the most important issues that merit our attention and action is not always straightforward. The Christian doctrine of 'stewardship' has a firm scriptural basis, but has also been critiqued by secular humanists as leading to the exploitation of the planet. This talk addresses the evidence and policy options to move towards a Christian approach to the environment by comparing and contrasting two environmental case studies: acid rain in the 1980s and climate change today.
